May Masterpiece Art Series at the Gingerbread House!!

 

Below is a complete listing of our May Masterpiece Series Classes!! Give us a call to reserve your spot- they fill up fast!!

 

  Week 1 am: Faith Ringgold’s Tar Beach
For our first class in May, we will read the picture book Tar Beach, by Faith Ringgold. After looking at examples of Ringgold’s art quilts, children will choose and sort various patterned papers to make their own unique quilt.

Week 1 pm: Tea Party with Mary Cassatt
Artist Mary Cassatt is widely known for her paintings capturing tender moments between mother and child as well as other daily human interactions. We will look at many examples of her work, one of which involves a little girls’ tea party. We will then make colorful drawings of nested tea cups designed especially by you!

Week 2 am: Painting with Emotion
Paint like an abstract Expressionist! We will discuss the life of Vincent Van Gogh and choose colors to reflect mood while creating a stylistic masterpiece with paint. ***Parents, be sure to send your child with a smock or in play/paint clothes!

Week 2 pm: Remembering Friends and Siblings with Van Gogh
Painter Vincent Van Gogh was very close to his brother Theo, who he often wrote detailed letters to. Today we will use oil pastels to create a picture our brother, sister, and/or friend and how these special people impact our lives.

Week 3 am: Calder Shape Sculptures
Build your own original 3-D sculpture using organic shapes made of cardboard and foam in the style of artist Alexander Calder!
